Dr. Agustín Morales Aguilar

Dr Agustín Morales Aguilar : 2025 - 2026

Agustín joined the University of Bath as a PDRA in February 2025, focusing on the computational assessment of redox-active heterobimetallic complexes and their reactivity towards small molecule activation, funded through the EPSRC joint grant with Mike Hill.

After studying a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Seville, Agustín enrolled in a two-year French-Spanish program, through which he was awarded two Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering and Molecular & Supramolecular Chemistry by the ECPM, as well as a MSc in Advanced Studies in Chemistry by the University of Seville. Within this program, he also had the opportunity to complete a four-month research internship at BASF in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Germany). Agustín then returned to Seville to do his Master's thesis at the IIQ within the Campos group, focusing on Transition Metal Only Frustrated Lewis Pairs (TMOFLP) and unconventional metallic centers for small molecule activation. In 2020, he pursued a European Joint Doctorate (EJD) in Chemistry as a Marie Curie Fellow under the guidance of Dr Baslé and Dr Bontemps (LCC, France) and Prof. Lledós (UAB, Spain). His PhD focused on the synthesis of NHC-CO2-based adducts and the evaluation of their one-electron reduction through a combined theoretical and experimental study, awarded Cum Laude in December 2023.

Dr. Sam E. Neale

Dr Sam E. Neale : 2021 - 2024

Sam joined the University of Bath in February 2021 as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. He worked on the joint EPSRC grant for "Nucleophilic Alkaline Earth Boryls" with Mike Hill and Alex Cresswell, then covered Claire's second maternity leave for the Department of Chemistry, before returning to Post-Doctoral Research work on the second joint EPSRC grant with Mike Hill, this time on "Molecular s-block Assemblies for Redox-active Bond Activation and Catalysis: Repurposing the s-block as 3d-element".

Sam joined us after 14 months at the University of Ghent, working at the Centre for Molecular Modeling under the supervision of Veronique Van Speybroeck. His research focussed on palladium-catalysed C-H activation within zeolites. Previously, he was a PhD student with Prof. Stuart A. Macgregor at Heriot-Watt University working on a variety of projects, including a project with Bath's own Ruth Webster on iron-NacNac-catalysed transfer hydrogenation. Before heading to Edinburgh, Sam did his MSc project in the Harvey group at the University of Bristol.

Gareth Nelmes

Gareth Nelmes : 2023

Gareth was a visiting postgraduate student, who stayed with the McMullin group for 3 months. He returned in Janaury 2024 to Australia, where he continued working on synthetic projects with Dr Jamie Hicks at ANU (Australian National University) and continued applying the computational skills he'd picked up from his time in Bath.

Dr. Nasir A. Rajabi

Dr Nasir A. Rajabi : 2018 - 2020

Nasir joined the University of Bath in October 2018 as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. He worked on the joint EPSRC grant for "Nucleophilic Alkaline Earth Boryls" with synthetic collaborators Mike Hill and Alex Cresswell - both based here at Bath.

Previously, Nasir was a PhD student with Prof. Stuart A. Macgregor at Heriot-Watt University working on a variety of projects, including a project with Bath's own Mike Whittlesey. Before heading to Edinburgh, Nasir did his MSc project in the Ariafard group in Tehran, focusing on DFT studies of TM-catalysed C-C bond activation of small organic compounds.
